Bella Napoli was opened in November 2002 and within four months the place was expanded to create more dining space for customers. The first pizzeria to open on mid Sukhumvit, it has since been joined by numerous other Italian eateries in the area. Taking the BTS and getting off at Phrom Phong station is an ideal way to get there if you don't mind a 9 - 10 minute walk to the restaurant, which is located 50 metres down Soi 31. I suggest it since the parking is very limited on the soi.
Bella Napoli's menu, like most no-nonsense pizzerias, is limited with only pizza, pasta and dessert selections. Nothing fancy here. I noticed that the strangely adorned penna lungha (310 baht) is one of the most ordered items. The crispy thin crust pizza came with the basic sauce of tomato and mozzarella but with feather-thin slices of parma ham hung on three bread stick poles to create a tent shape. Pizzas are not the only must-order items here. The pasta is also worth trying. Bella Napoli's pasta comes in a clay pot covered with pizza bread - the pizzeria's distinctive and smart way to conserve the heat. I had spaghetti misto mare (250 baht), which came with mixed seafood in tomato sauce, and it was delicious. Cream sauce fans will find the spaghetti with battered white snapper and artichoke cream at 250 baht delicious with the pasta perfectly cooked.
The owner was born to a family of ice cream makers and caters to several Bangkok restaurants so don't miss the gelato and sorbetto at 100 baht per two big scoops. Flavors include hazelnut, crocantino, chocolate-orange, tiramisu and chocolate-mint. I recommend crocantino, made with mixed nuts, it is decadent. But if you are in the mood for tangy icy treat, go for the sorbet. Booking a table in advance is recommended but reservations are accepted only for Monday to Friday. Patrons on Saturday & Sunday are treated on a first-come first-serve basis.
